Current Activities Hey, we have all become OCTOGENARIANS,
(congratulations) and survived the pandemic, “a
toast to your health”. It’s
hard to believe that I have been retired since
September 30, 2001, (21years this September.) I
retired from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College as
the Senior College Registrar. Retirement is
the best job I’ve ever had because there are more
opportunities to do all those things I enjoy -
golfing, gardening, dining out, reading, napping,
shopping with my wife (really), and traveling. Even
better is my time spent with Carolyn and our two
grand-children – Ethan, age 18, and Nathaniel, age 15.
Presently, I have been involved with the 65th-year
Reunion Committee and I’m looking forward to
spending time with classmates on August 12,
2022, at the
ZEM ZEM SHRINE CLUB. So do not miss it!
Also, I’m looking forward to cruise this fall with
daughter Heather, son-in-law Andrew, and
the grandsons. Carolyn and I will celebrate our 55th
wedding anniversary in October, this cruise will
return us to Nassau, Bahamas where we traveled to on
our honeymoon. We
also have been Snowbirds in retirement, enjoying
Naples, Florida. What I have done, etc After
graduation from McDowell, I served in the U.S Army. I
attended Edinboro State College and obtained a BS in
1963, and M Ed in 1966. I was privileged to teach
junior high school Social Studies for five years (one
year in Meadville, PA. and four years at Fort LeBoeuf
in Waterford, PA.). I married Carolyn Novotny (Villa
’57) on October 14, 1967. This is definitely the best
decision I ever made! We raised three great children,
Jeffrey, Jason and Heather. We reside in Millcreek. In
1968, I joined Penn State University as an Adult
Continuing Education Administrator at the University’s
McKeesport Campus. In 1970, I transferred to the then
Penn State Erie, Behrend Campus in Adult Continuing
Education, a position I held until 1979, when then
Dean of Faculty Dr. Tom Fox, asked me to become the
College Registrar, a position I held until retiring in
2001. My 38-year career was devoted to education; it
was a tremendous experience helping to develop what
has become a great College, with a beautiful campus,
an outstanding faculty, supported financially by a
wonderfully generous Erie community. Carolyn and I
have done some great trips to Europe, Central and
South America. We have enjoyed family and friends
wherever our adventures have taken us. But the journey
is not over yet! Let’s talk past, present and future
at our 65th-year
reunion. Finally, I’d like to share my adopted
motto for the next 20 years: but rather to skid in sideways, no money left, pizza in one hand, favorite wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming 'WOW -- What a ride!'" |
