Terry Herrick
TERRY LEE HERRICK EAST ASHEVILLE - Terry Lee Herrick, 71, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011. He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio to the late Horace and Luneille Herrick. He grew up in Erie, Pa. and graduated high school from McDowell in 1957. Terry attended both Penn St and the University of Idaho, before receiving his B.S. in Naval Science from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. After leaving the military where Terry had been an officer for a P3-Orion Squadron, he went into the new field of information systems in the civilian sector. Terry developed several new lean manufacturing processes that are still in use today. In 1983, Terry moved a manufacturing facility from Indiana down to Weaverville, N.C. He eventually retired and became a lean manufacturing consultant that took him across the country and even to India. Terry loved to read, sail, play tennis, volleyball, exercise, walk his dogs and enjoyed the mountains. Above all, he loved time with his family. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Dianne Herrick; his sister, Christine Herrick Huff and husband, Mike; his son, Chris and his wife, Karen; his son, Scott and his wife, Beth; and his daughter, Aimee Patterson and her husband, John. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and "Ruff." Terry supported his community and was involved with several business organizations including the Asheville Chamber of Commerce. He supported education locally and worked as a Odyssey of the Mind Judge for many years. A celebration of life will be Saturday, May 7, 1 p.m. at Weaverville Presbyterian Church.
