Vern and I have
been married for almost 64 years, and still
moving along, although a bit slower!! We still
live in Camarillo California and fortunately
our son, daughter, and 3 grandsons live here
too. Over the course of time, after Vern left
the Air Force and our 3 year stint in Alaska
we grew avocados, oranges, and built a lovely
home and barn on 4 acres where I was able to
try my hand at pottery, painting, stained
glass, sewing, and any other hobby I could
drum up. After Vern retired from American
Airlines we moved to a smaller home in a
wonderful neighborhood, still in Camarillo. We
have traveled around the world a fair amount,
and also enjoyed extensive traveling in this
beautiful country of ours in several different
rv’s. I worked a short time as an ESL aide at
our local high school, but would say my major
accomplishment was raising our 2 wonderful
kids, and helping to raise the grandkids too!
We have both had our share of challenges, Vern
had prostate cancer surgery (is clear now!)
and a major hemorrhagic stroke with brain
surgery 4 years ago. He is miraculously well
and shows very little signs of impairment. I
have had 2 hip replacements and lots of other
minor surgeries, but we are both now blessed
with good health. I go to a water aerobics
class when I feel ambitious (!!), am in a
small but mighty book club, play Mah Jongg
once a week, and we have wine every Friday
with a group of 10 very dear friends. Life
doesn’t get much better than this and I thank
God every day for my good fortune. I will be
thinking with fond memories of everyone from
CLASS OF ‘57 as you all gather for the 65th
reunion!
